Volunteer With PRISM at OHSU

The PRISM research team at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking highly disciplined pre-med students for a volunteer opportunity in our phase II-IV clinical trials. Our research focuses on conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), COVID-19, pneumonia, sepsis, and more. Volunteers will gain proficiency in using electronic medical records, develop data management and clinical research skills, acquire medical knowledge, and develop communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. Volunteers will report to and work under the supervision of research coordinators and PI, Akram Khan, MBBS.

  • Conduct chart reviews of study subjects/patients using electronic medical records (EPIC).

  • Enter information into a secure database.

  • Support research coordinators in various tasks.

Primary Duties

  • Volunteers are expected to be available for at least 1-2 half days (4-hour shifts) per week for a period of 6-12 months.

Commitment

  • This position is intended for pre-med/pre-healthcare college students (18+ years old) interested in gaining research experience before applying to medical, nursing, pharmacy, or physician associate school or entering a healthcare field.

  • International medical graduates interested in gaining experience in phase II and phase III clinical trials in pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine may also apply.

Eligibility

  • This volunteer position is in-person only.

  • Our offices are located on the 1st floor of Emma Jones Hall on the main campus (Marquam Hill) of OHSU.
